Here is a very unusual light that was once owned by an
unusual individual. Usually during the period when these
fixtures were bought the tendency was for the buyer to buy
shades that exactly matched. The shades were often sold
separately from the fixtures in 1905 or at least there would
be different options for shades in the showroom. This fixture
was outfitted with 3 sets of 4 Verre de Soie Steuben iridescent
shades that are very similar in design but are 3 different sets of 4.
I'm assuming that the purchaser had a difficult time choosing so
decided on all three. There is a precedent for this in the Gas Fixture
period where fixtures were outfitted with bowls that have different
scenes on them. This idea creates a very rich detail statement.
The shades work very well together and are all made in the same
process the difference being slightly different shapes and slightly
different etched design. This is a really beautiful bronze chandelier
with 12 lights. It has been rewired with Teflon wire and porcelain
sockets so it will do a great job lighten your room.
