This 6-Light Crystal Gas Chandelier is consistent with lighting
from the Mount Washington Glass Works of New Bedford, MA - as shown in
Gas Lighting in America, Plate 72.
This Chandelier and a smaller one, 2259g, was in a 1870 Vintage House in the South End of Boston.
There was a Double Parlor in this home and this fixture hung from the ceiling in the larger Parlor.
The fixture had been electrified in the 1920s and we have updated the wiring. There
are many tiers of cut glass crystal pendants
that we call spear prisms. The fixture has 145 of these spear prisms.
Six cut glass crystal chains drape from one of the top tiers to the
bobeches on the arms. The Chandelier is completely of hand blown glass
with copper wheel cut design. The slightly smaller complimentary fixture
with the same shades as mentioned above hung in the smaller room of the Double Parlor and
recently sold.
The shades are of beautiful deep etched quality with bell flower and drape design.
