This is a wonderful example of a Gas Lantern from the
Aesthetic Period c. 1880. It has been electrified with
4 porcelain sockets and can be used inside or outside.
It has wonderful Cast Bronze detail throughout the
lantern including the four arms that suspend the box.
The cream Slag glass has a dash of blue and makes an
interesting contrast to the Dark Bronze patina on the
metal. The Motto of the Aesthetic Period was
"Art for Arts Sake"and we consider a Lantern like
this a work of art.
