One of the most simple allegorical symbols in lighting fixtures is the scroll arm back. This Chandelier makes interesting use of the scroll detail in 12 places. Previous to books, leave rolls made out of organic material like animal skin or leaf material were used as long rolls of parchment. The use of the scroll detail in Chandeliers told the story of how these people were interested in acquiring knowledge, considered theirselves enlightened or educated. Most of these allegorical symbols have become institutionalized to the point of becoming fashionable building facades or furniture decorations, so it is hard to know what was the original meaning of the symbols.
